Avestite Armor

Description

I've been super busy this week, but at least I had time to crank this picture out. As you can tell, I'm still thinking about Fading Suns because I love space opera sci-fi. No telling when I'll give this a rest, but right now I don't care. Never question my madness.

The Avestites are the primary movers and shakers in the Church's Inquisition. Nine out of ten Inquisitors are former Avestites, while the tenth guy has to eat his lunch by himself. Avestite soldiers are not true Inquisitors, or true space marines for a very simple reason. Their favorite weapon is the flamethrower. The soldier on the left is carrying a traditional two-handed 'thrower with a gas tank, while the one on the right, uses a much smaller short-range wrist-mounted 'thrower (It's dangerous, I know, but let's just assume that flamethrower technology makes some improvements 30,000 years from now). Other weapons include an axe for breaking open a heretic's doors, and an Imperial rifle for taking angry mobs out at a distance.

One of the main differences between Avestite armor and the types used by other Church soldiers is the faceguard. You can't see their faces. Brother Battle wants their soldiers to have at least their eyes visible, so the downtrodden can make eye contact and know that the good guys have arrived. The Avestites don't want your comradery. Fear is just as useful a weapon against heresy as napalm. If you can't see their face you can't see what they're thinking. By simply making the faceguard reflective and blank, every Avestite on the battlefield is a faceless, nameless, sexless killing machine. It isn't perfect, but it works. They are the only Church organization that has to use bar-codes (on the lower medallion) to identify their troops.

Here's some music that kept me in the mood while I made this. Enjoy.
